Default Does this look weird to you guys?

Guys, take a look at how far my keepers sit up above my retainers...

Now keep in mind these are both supposed to be 10 degree pieces...but they all set up like this.

I've never seen a lock not sit flush....so this kinda has me worried.....I'm afraid that Manley sent me 7 degree retainers in a 10 degree package.

Anyone ever seen a setup like this?

I am using Manley retainers and Comp locks....different brand match up maybe?

I dread taking them apart...it took me 3 days to find a buddy that had a spring compressor strong enough to compress these springs.

The difference between 7 and 10 degree keepers is quite obvious--10 won't go into 7 retainers and 7 are very loose in 10 retainers and will probably go thru.

What is more a problem is using keepers for the wrong size valve stems--3/8 on 11/32, etc

there are also keeper/retainer packages set up for different install heights( +/- .050 install heights) and also keepers for lash caps

Hope it helps, but I would take one apart to check it out.

Jerry

These were heads that I bought from Keith Craft. They came with 10 degree retainers and matching locks.

I changed cams, so I changed springs and other components (installed titanium retainers) to match the cam...

I reused the locks that cam with the heads....

Both are supposed to be 10's.

The valve dimensions never changed.

It does look kinda weird. I've tried Comp and Crower Ti 10* retainers with Crane standard 10* keepers, Crower standard and -.05 10* keepers. The keepers were all pretty level with the retainers with these combinations. I know the Comp keepers have machining for the lash caps but don't know if that makes a difference in the way they sit in the retainers. I guess it's a strange way of thinking but I didn't want to get the Comp keepers since they were way cheaper than the other 10* machined keepers and I figured there must be some reason for it and didn't want to chance it.

They do look odd. Far too clean and no high speed discoloration. Oh, the geometry looks fine. Go run the things and they will look better

I ordered a set of Manley 10 degree keepers....since the retainers are Manley. I'll try one of those and see what it looks like.

I just don't wanna take a chance. If one little keeper dies, the whole engine will probably be shot.

Brent, I posted a couple pics for you on the FE Forum. I don't know how to do that here.
