Default Jon Bennett Engines

Does anyone have any opinions about Jon Barrett 427's?? They seem low priced...

Looks like a lot of bang for the buck. I have never had any experience with this builder but I'm sure someone here has. I like the 408 stroker but to each his own.

There is a show on Speed regarding Barry's Speedshop -- "Wrecks to riches" or something like that. He installed Barrett engines in his makeovers. Seemed to sell at auction OK.

Barry White used Jon Barrett engines in most of the TLC "Wrecks to Riches"
buildups with the exception of the '69 Hemi Dart build and the '70 GTO build.
White had purchased an old Keith Black hemi block for the Dart but the block
turned out to be cracked and unrepairable, so he had to settle for a Mopar
crate hemi for the Dart. The GTO used a Butler Performance 461" Pontiac
setup. Barrett doesn't build Mopars or Pontiacs, but Barry White seems to
use Barrett's engines if he can supply the type appropirate for the build.

I think he's using a 4.170 stroke and a 6.250 rod which is not a good ratio with a 4.040 bore. Roush and Keith Craft use a SB Dart Block with thicker cylinder walls and they do a 4.125 bore and a 4.0 stroke with a 6.250 rod producing a much much better stroke to rod angle. The problem is with a low stroke to rod ratio is piston scuff and wear. Thus shorter pistion/engine life. Spend it now or spend it later.

Poolw,

Thanks, I'm not very smart in the over-square, under-square aspects of engine building. For a SVO Sportsman II block is this a standad bore? And with this I can expect more torque and an engine that doesn't spool up as fast, right?
