Dan,
You are correct, the smooth hood was standard, but I'm not clear on if a scoop would have been more common as a dealer installed option, or as a from-the-factory ordered option... either way, you are correct that it was an option & I have no idea how many were factory installed (rivited) as you mention, vs glassed on... I did find one street with a riveted hood (csx 3260), but the two smooth ones make me wonder how they got that way... (making me mental) I guess if I'm going to have to keep the scoop to get the engine "right", then I want the scoop to be "right" too.

What I do have is a PI intake on 427 low-rise heads... I've not heard that is is a mis-match before. Guess I'll know for sure when I get it to Southern Automotive in the coming weeks.

You don't seem to have anything that's out of the ordinary, higher than normal. You may want to find somebody else with a FE contempoary and compare engine mounts.

Because a cobra hood is rounded, it is higher in the center than at the edges. I found a good way to measure hood clearence was to get a radio antenna, and tape it to something inside the engine compartment where you want to measure clearence, close the hood which compresses the antenna to the maximum clearence. You may be surprised how much clearence you have.

David, from my previous post: "A Medium riser intake will fit on low riser heads, with a possible port mismatch."
The PI intake is a low riser intake, no mismatch there. The carbs sit lower on low risers than medium risers, so you've got all the clearance you're going to get from the motor, other than using a different air cleaner. The reason I said a medium riser intake may give you a mismatch between the intake and heads is because of what SOBRAC mentioned earlier about low riser intakes having the same port sizes as medium risers. The yellow "Ford Performance" book shows this to be the case, but there are several incorrect size statements in that book, so at this time I say they might cause a size mismatch until I get info from another source. Not that you want to install a medium riser intake on your car because of the clearance issues you already have, but FYI, you cannot port match a medium riser intake to "tall" low riser heads, as the medium riser intake doesn't have enough meat below the port to open the port up enough. The low riser intakes, PI, Cobra Jet, etc. can be port matched to "tall" low riser heads.
In short, the parts you have all match.
