I dont see an issue with SCAT 4.25 crank and 6.7 inch BBC rods with a custom piston at 4.00 for 428 cid.
However, it would be MUCH easier to find parts for the same setup .050 over and using Diamond stroker pistons for a std bore 390, for 438 cubes
It'd be tough to get the small bore to really breathe, but it'd pull like a freight train down low!

352 stroker....
Depending on the head being used, there might be some shrouding/clearance
issues at 4.0" bore. The block probably can be bought out to 4.05 safely and
that would allow the use of popular 390 stroker kits. It would probably be
a good idea to have the block sonic tested before proceeding further.

The exhaust side will get tight at anything more than 1.67 even on the 4.00 bore, but the intake side on an FE has plenty of room.
The question is, what do you want the motor to do? If you want it to rev, thes troker wont do bad, but you want as much bore size as you can to allow room for a good set of heads and a big exhaust valve
BTW a 4.05 bore will happily accept a 2.15 intake / 1.67 exhaust combo, but thats about as big as you can get on either side

Hi Alfred,
Have you actually checked the bore/stroke size of both blocks. The 72 is more likely to be a 390, remember most blocks have 352 cast on the front regardless of actual size. 390 started in 1961, so you might get a pleasant surprise!

If it's 1972 vintage, it would have to be a 390/2V although 1971 was the
last year for the 390/2V, a few might have gone into '72 models. The 352
was gone after the '66 model year. I think most 352 blocks were designated
B9AE.

Or the 72 could be a 360 possibly besides a 390.

That is correct, but they share the same bore, i.e. block. The differenvce is in the stroke / crank.

If the '63 is a 390 as well, I've heard that the passenger 390's from the '60's generally have the thickest walls, and have a better chance to being bored out to 4.13", same as 428, so the '63 block may be a good one. You won't know until you measure the bores of the block, and have the walls sonic tested.

450 horse with a 4.25 stroke crank-- a decent modern hyd cam, some slight bowl and transition work in whatever head you pick, you should be there.

I cheked the cast number in the cylinder block on the 1963 year and is
C3AE-A and in the crankshaft is the same C3AE-A ; I think that this means that is a 352.

I dont see any reason it couldnt go 4.05 bore, or even more, but you'd need to have it sonic checked

The 63 would have lowriser heads. The 72 most likely D2TE-AA heads and meduim riser heads.
