Default Is it possible?

is it possible to bolt up a 4 spd auto transmission to a 68 390? or would i just be better off with a 3 spd auto?

Yes, adapters are available to bolt up an FE to either a Ford AOD or GM (Chevy) 700R4. (or any other Chevy bolt pattern trans)

Go to Transmission Adapters

They have everything you need to put an AOD behind an FE.
