Default 426 CJ -- price?

I have the opportunity to buy a 428CJ -- totally rebuilt and can heard run.
I am not sure what has been done to the engine but I know it has a rocking cam --The engine is very clean and run good -- the guys wants $2,000.00.
Do you guys have any ideas or thoughts -- The guy selling it is a relative and I trust him.
Thank's
Mike

Does it have the CJ heads? Is it a service block or a real CJ block? I sold a set of heads for about a grand, and a date coded CJ block for about two. Sounds like a good price for a complete running engine.

Yes it has CJ heads and a coded block -- so you think it is a good deal?
I appreciate your feedback -- let me know.

I'm looking at a 428CJ service short block, Std. bore, with CJ Crank and Rods and he's asking $1500 for it. Your price for a complete engine is very reasonable.

Nothing wrong with service blocks, they usually have reinforcing ribs on the block that improves strength. Key issue is how much to clean it up. Std. bore probably won't end up that way and lots of work to get to a finished product.

Did you do a compression test and leak down by cylinder? Recommended.

This engine is in Georgia -- and is complete -- my gut is telling me it is a good deal -- I think I may just go ahead and buy it --
Your information is very helpful.

I have a 428 block I wouldn't sell for $2,000. It sounds like a steal... Oh, and I'm not cutting 2" off for anyone.
