427 T-P, whats it worth?
Just purcahsed a 66 427so with 67 Tunnel Port heads for 7k from my best friend. Needs to be rebuilt but I must say, its a real clean engine...St. bore, single plane dual 4s. I don't know if i'll put it in a car or just resell it. He's had it in storage for 29 yrs. It came out of a 67 Mustang coupe from Lynchberg, VA. It was doing 10 sec 1/4s.

Tear it down and freshen it up, then stuff it in. I love mine even though it was a major money pit to build. Throttle response from 4 to 7K is unbelievable!
You got a great deal on it.

Tunnel port intake are very rare, if its a ford intake. You well never be un happy with the power the FE 427 makes, they pull just as hard at 40mph as they due 80mph. Finding one thats has not been bore already is also rare.

As to what's it worth, I sold a NOS 2-4 intake for about $1400 for Tunnel Port. Heads are probably $2000 or so. Then the 427 side oiler. The TP package is rare and very desireable. I have a single 4 TP intake if anyone needs one. Jim

Tunnel ports work well in light cars like Cobras. Before I built mine people were quick to say it wouldn't work well, but any loss of low end doesn't mean much in a light car.For heavier cars.....run lots of gear.If this doesn't work for you, then I'll be happy to take it off your hands.

If you research the basic question, "Will these heads work well on the street"? You find the almost universal answer to be "No" (from trade magazines and experts, etc). Same thing can be said concerning the high riser heads I'm running on my ERA, with 2X4 no less.
Perhaps it IS the light wieght of the car that makes the difference? I just don't have a problem running the BIG ported high risers, works well on the street for me! Engine idle rpm is around 1000, doesn't like lower. Throttle response is better around 1500-2000, but I suspect that has as much to do with my cam as my heads.
I'd run a tunnel port in a heart beat (2X4 would be even cooler, I like that look).

Although my TP is aluminum, it makes so much power that I can't imagine even a heavier iron engine wouldn't be a decent street engine. I currently have mine in a 68 fastback mustang but I don't have it finished yet so I can't tell you if the weight of the car will make a difference. When I had it in my first cobra it was incredible. As far as what it's worth, they are rare enough that it will be worth whatever someone is willing to pay you for it if you sell it. I have over 21K invested in mine but that includes the cost of a rebuild. I just learned that the alum. heads are some kind of Ford experimantal units with an SKS casting number? From what I was told Ford worked with Holman-Moody on different port configurations and all the experimental heads had this SKS casting.

The GT40s ran aluminum TP heads. The GT40's heads were dry decked and had a tube that connected the coolant in the block up to the coolant in the heads.

I too have over 20k in the motor. Aluminum block, roller cam, eagle rods, forged ford crank, rocker supports, etc. etc... It added up in a big hurry.
Its a wild ride and I am still tuning it. I do have the idle down to 800 and it is very responsive and drivable. Major but pucker factor above 5k rpm. Still running a bit rich, but with more time this summer I hope to narrow that down some. I am still going rich for the power side. Killer looks too.
Here are some pics.
