Default 427 side oiler marine block

Are there any pitfalls to drilling a marine side oiler block (now a center oiler) to be a side oiler? Dove engineering will be doing the machining. Another question regarding the engine is the carburetor size. The bore will be .010 over and the C/R will be about 10.5:1 using a Crain 530 lift cam and solid lifters. Will a Holley 750 be adequate or should I use a Holley 850?

You just have to get the angles correct. The hardest is the side holes. The side can be done from either end, the test of the gundriller is if they meet in the middle. Don't forget the relief hole and spring back into the crankcase. Bear in mind you'll need the cam shaft with the groove on the centre bearing and you may need a two piece sleeve or similar to back up the original oil groove. Also the reverse rotation cranks will have to have the rear main grooves cleaned off as they will try and pump oil out of the motor.

Watch that the sideoiler galley has not been already shaved for motor mount clearance. If so yer screwed. I think Paul Solomon (ogasman) has a block he had drilled for sideoiling. Maybe check with him so get a few tips. He knows the Dove guys pretty good and I think they did his.
