Iron Genesis Block
How good is the Iron Genesis block? Compared to an original 427 or compared to the various aluminum blocks on the market? your input appreciated. I want to build a good street motor around 500HP, smooth and reliable for long distance driving to shows etc. stroker crank, hydraulic lifters and vacuum secondary carb. Something very tractable matched to a toploader. Thanks

I have a Genesis cast block and it is terrific. If you use a good, reputable builder that does good machine work you won't be disappointed. From what I've been told, the new blocks are stronger with more material in the right places allowing for larger bores without any heating issues. Mine is 496 c.i.'s, runs strong and cool.
You will be able to exceed your desires with no problem.

I did not mean to select the thumbs down, it was by accident! I tried to change it but it did not go away everywhere!

This is a perfect place to use the ol' Club Cobra search tool. I can't remember any negative comments once the teething problems were solved and I've heard post after post about how good they are. I have only about 2,500 miles on a 496 stroker (3.310 bore X 3.250 stroke). Dynoed at 607 HP with 9.4:1 compression. I might even run 87 octane in it to see if it pings. Runs cool, doesn't leak. What else could you want?
Good luck,
Brian
