Fe block numbers

I need some help to identifing two FE blocks that i have.
the first one is C6ME .
the second is C6ME-A .

It is pretty difficult to do so without measuring the bore and stroke. Also the crankshaft number will tell you the stroke. C6ME-A was used in both the 390's and 428's.

Where can I find the crankshaft numbers ?

They're stamped on the crank....look on a counterweight.

If the C6ME-A block turns out to be a 390 bore of 4.05 , can it be bored out to a 428 (4.13) sense it was used as a 390 and 428 ?
On the back of the block (flywheel side) there are the numbers 66 427, does that mean anything ? Or am I just wishing ? I dropped it off at the machine shop so mabe I will know at least what the bore is .

Some 390's can be bored to a 428, but you would need to have the machine shop do a sonic test to be sure. Some 390's also have the 66 427 numbers cast on them as well as 427's. Hope this helps. Jim

You can knock out the 6 freeze plugs on the block and see what size drill bit shank fits between the cyl walls inside. That will give you a good idea what you have until you get it to the shop for a sonic. A 13/64" drill bit shank is a snug fit in 428 wallcores. 17/64" for 360/390 wall cores. Check at the top, middle and bottom of the cyls. Clean away and crap or crud with a knife so you get a good gauge reading.
