They are both made offshore. Actually the new forged steel cranks are very nice and are branded. They are just not Crower or some other well known manufacturer. See Doug at Precision Oil Pumps who sells them. Balance will still have to be checked.

I was told that the lower end cranks at manufacturers like Callies, Lunati and Crower are made from offshore steel, but that the mid-tohigh range are made in the USA.

For instance, in the Callies line, the lower end Dragonslayer line are made from offshore steel, but the Callies Racemaster and Magnum lines are made in the USA. I think you get both offshore and USA steel depending on the amount of money that you want to spend. I don't believe any of the Scat, Cat or Eagle products use steel made in the USA. I was informed, if given the choice, choose Cat, then Scat and use Eagle products as your last choice.

As for Crower products, I have almost always used their products (cam, rods, roller rockers, crank, etc.) exclusively because of a perceived (by me and others that I know) difference in quality and customer service. However, Crower always seems to have long lead times (waits) for their products and they're parts are more expensive than the others.

My Chevy 540 has a Cat crank and Cat rods, but I run a Crower hydraulic roller cam and Crower's stainless steel roller rockers.

"I was told that the lower end cranks at manufacturers like Callies, Lunati and Crower are made from offshore steel, but that the mid-tohigh range are made in the USA."

Read above, or if you can't, have someone read it to you. Crower steel can come from China.

I'm not paying $2000 extra for a crankshaft just because it's made in the USA. Get some sense and grow a couple brain cells.

It would be nice if they still made every single part of everything in the USA...but you need to come to grips with the fact that they don't. Not to say, that I don't like that, but when it comes down to buying a new Ford truck and parts are made in Mexico, Japan, China, etc...you don't have much choice, do you?

Hey, your engine block was cast in Canada, how do you feel about that?

Excuse me for the slight digression, but we live in a global economy. There are no more American TV manufacturers because Asian manufacturers did it better. Toyota just overtook GM for top manufacturer of autos in the US. Just because merchandise comes from overseas doesn't make it necessarily bad. There are bad parts from overseas and there are good parts too. Just have to be a smart shopper.

As for the crankshafts, KC and Barry R use Scat products with success from all the posts I've seen on this website.

Forget billet, what I find kinda interesting is if anyone has one of those ultra-light crankshafts in their engine. Now that would be big bucks.

"disgust"

Also..."I" not "i"

"there" not "ther"

"U.S." never "u.s."

"vintage" not "vitage"

"taking" not "takin"

Periods (.) help signal the reader when a sentence ends.

Hope this helps you in communicating with articulate foreigners.

poor baby...

BTW...next time you get personal in a tech thread, you will be taking a vacation from this place.

You want to discuss American vs foreign built...take it to the Lounge.

Period.

I got a feeling "WildBill3" is going bye-bye. Jamo has shown alot of patience with this thread.

That sure was a quick edit Bill but I think the mods can still pull up your original post.
