DMV Problems
Well here I am about to take posession of a beautiful Superformance MK III this week. I went into the local DMV office today to pay "my fair share" and was told that until I receive my SB100 #, next Jan 2nd, the car will have to sit...."you can't drive it". Can this be true? I was told by some folks the DMV can issue a temperary permit thru the end of the year...Any advise out there??

Do a search on SB100...you'll find plenty of advice and info.

axvc84,
I feel your pain...that's exactly what they told me three years ago. After I had paid for registration and taxes. I demanded a refund which i got, but I was first inline in January and it was about 11:30 in the morning before I actually got an sb#. They would not issue me a TOP either. Good Luck!! It's worth the wait believe me.

axcv84,
Where are you located? Have you tried going to a different DMV office? The process seems to vary from office to office, but your experience doesn't seem to be consistent with what people have posted on CC. I would escalate the situation to a supervisor at the DMV.

Dmv
Your advise to look at a different DMV office is right on. I;m heading to Placerville DMV tomorrow morning. Have heard that the office is Cobra friendly...

change the law
Of course, you guys could always do what we did here in Virginia: we changed the law. July 1st the new law takes into effect mandating that all cars built to replicate a car from a different model year only need to adhere to the laws of the year being replicated. So, for a 1966 Cobra: no inspection. We just title it, pay the taxes and drive away.
You probably have someone in your club who is friendly enough with a politician to get them to sponsor a bill. Its worth it.

I'll throw this out there, but you'd better check it's validity before you bank on it. First off, do you have a FE block? If so, it's probably a pre-1974, in which case you could register now through the regular SPCN process. You would need to go to a BAR station every 2 years and they would verify that you have a pre-1974 block and smog you based on that. Pre-1974 doesn't have any smog requirements, other than a PCV valve, so really it would be a formality. Like I said, check with your local BAR station before you take my word on it.
