One with 8 coats of red candy over silver with white pearl stripes and 7 coats of clear. Then wetsanded with 1000 then 1500 then 2000 then 2500 so that there is no way you can feel the stripes even in the jams. There is 10 k in just paint and paint related labor not including the bodywork. There will be 90k in this car when done and its one of the nices ones we have done yet. The hood opening is tight at the front of the motor and there is no way I would take the chance. putting the short block in from the bottom works great. I got it all covered up and put away for a few weeks but when its done I will post some photos.

Sounds like a great way to install the engine on such a fine ride!

The work over the fenders to install the top end pieces will take more care than the complete engine from the top

I agree. Drop the engine in with the trans removed. Pop the trans in after and your done. Spend less time over the fenders and without heavy pieces to carry. But you did it so all is well.

I read this thread before and was thinking about it the other day.Besides the few missing washers on the rocker shaft,I would guess that the valve lash was set way too loose. If it is so loose the rocker could jump the pushrod and come off the way they did. This would mean that there is really nothing seriously wrong??? other than incorrectly lashed rockers??

Obviously, there are builder related issues here. But, if I understand you correctly, you took the motor apart to put it in the car before these problems occurred? If so, I think you are stuck. Either way, I hope things work out for you.

Those numbers are on the builders own dyno I will post the whole story real soon its a wild one and will educate allot of people on how not to get burned. the motor was complete from the builder when it was set in the frame and the body put on the car I never had it apart till it blew.

You would think that the guy had a clue that this engine should have made a little more than 239hp. What a moron.

Hopefully there won't be a confidentiality clause tucked in on the last page of the settlement agreement. You might want to check that before you post the details, although I must admit I am dying to know the the full story myself.

Default Don't do it Eddy

eddytheb I hope you win your settlement, If you get your motor rebuilt or replaced, call it a day. Yea the guy screwed up. If you release his name his company may take a big hit. The ones that will suffer the most are family and workers. Did you get screwed, from the info and pictures there was a problem with either the assembly work or poor measurement. You have done more by having other people looking at this forum and see a problem with a new motor. There are a couple of other motor builder on the forum that have done questionable work. Tell the story if you want but be 100% sure that nothing you did or didn't do effected this problem. Checking rocker lash after a motor is broken in and a oil change are the first 2 thing done after breakin. Some machinist breakin motors 20 minutes other run them 1 hour. It's choice. I break all my motors in with only a single valve spring and rpm limit to 2,800 rpm. 2,200 rpm is my breakin speed other go 2,500rpm. IMO there is not going to be alot of different with a 300 rpm change. If someone want to know the builder, send a private e-mail. You won let the rest go. Rick L.

Default Top end problems

Hi Rick,
This builder did not know Fe's too well or this would not of happened. Most of the better valvetrain suppliers for the FE's supply the correct spacer kits for the head application. I only use Harland Sharp sets as I've had "issues" with others. Eldbk heads have a different valve offset than others, care must be taken on your over the nose spring pressure, I like to keep it 320psi or less. After thirteen or so FE projects I can tell you this is just poor craftsmanship....this is a bad error. Hope your damage is just up top.
Mark
