Question about Quicktime bellhousing, stamped steel valve covers
Where is the best place to get:
Chrome stamped steel valve covers (see pic)?
Original style pulleys?
Anyone use a Quick Time bellhousing on a Pond alum block yet? I spoke with Steve at Fortes. He said the QT bellhousing was not working on the Pond or Shelby Alum blocks and that QT might manufacture a new bellhousing to address this problem.

I'll let you know next week when my motor arrives. I already have the QT bellhousing. What were the issues regarding the Pond block?

I`m also curious as to why the Quicktime unit won`t work on the Ponds or Shelby block as I have a Ponds 482 on the engine stand waiting for the Quicktime bellhousing I just ordered ????
Thanks .

Don't know why it won't work. Call Quicktime to confirm or disprove what Steve at Fortes told me.

Quicktime
Hmmm. I have A Keith Craft Pond 427/482 with Quicktime Housing and it seems to be fine.
Might Call Joe Weight at Kirkham to ask for details?

Don't know why Quicktime "possibly" has problems but my Lakewood bolted up to my Pond block perfectly w/o offset dowels or any other welded alignment modifications. I "dialed in" the bellhousing too. It had < 0.002" misallignment, well within the allowable deviation of 0.007".

Tony Branda has the chrome pent-roof valve covers. They sell two styles - one with a hole for a breather and one without.
The original crank pulley is a single groove unit that is an integral part of the 427 balancer. You may be able to use a 390 pulley depending on what balancer you are using and whether you need additional grooves.
I bought my water pump pulley off ebay. Try to find one the same diameter or slightly smaller than your crank pulley.
Alternator pulleys can be used from any Ford alternator or you could use a larger diameter (but technically incorrect) hipo 289 pulley from most Mustang vendors - I'm pretty sure Branda sells these, too.
If originality is not important, many use March billet aluminum pulley sets.

I don't understand. We have used them on both blocks.

There were a couple different versions of the FE / TKO bellhousings that came out early on. I believe the current housings should work with all blocks.

The bell housing we used were for the Ford style transmission. This is the shorter of the two bell housings.

Barry, does it work?
It would be interesting to see what Barry R.'s experience has been. Steve said he just shipped him one.
Barry you out there? Does it work?

I sent an e mail to Ross McCombs at QuickTime asking him about this and his answer is " I am not aware of any reason it should be different from a OEM 427 block" referring to the QuickTime bellhousing .
Also talked to Steve at Forte`s and he is waiting feedback from some customers who are installing QuickTime bellhousings on Ponds blocks .

I have the bell and the block sitting here. Simply have not had time to attach them together yet. From what I was told the issue may lie in the combined use of a Powermaster starter with the solenoid. I have one of those here too.
I'll try to click them all together and see what happens....might be a day or two.

Got it mocked up....
Pond block, Quicktime bell, Powermaster starter...
They do not fit At least not as a simple bolt together.
It appears that the problem is with the Powermaster and the Pond block. I do not think the bellhousing is at fault.
The Powermaster has the battery power stud pointed toward the block - opposite of a normal Ford part. The Pond block has extra cooling and thus is wider in the water jacket area. The stud ends up .018 from the block - - just too close to be safe. I think we can clearance the block and shorten the stud to make it work. I still would want to fully insulate the connection - maybe with a shortened spark plug boot.

Pond + Tilton = :)
Don't know if the Powermaster you have can be reclocked, but you can turn the Tilton solenoid and Batt terminal to three different orientations. I had the same interference problem when I tried to put the Tilton on right out of the box.
Sam
P.S. .. I should mention that I did have to machine the face of the Tilton mounting plate to get the pinion gap in spec. See the earlier thread.

Hey Barry,
Any progress on the Pond block / Quicktime bell-housing issue?
Thanks

Yep,
Powermaster has a different part number that puts the battery terminal at the end of the solenoid - I need to get the number off the box. No problem with that one!
