Iron motors equal nose down weight
RedCSX1 Red Dick told me two things about his cobra, First was the fact of running iron motors was to keep the nose down at high speeds. He said this was better than to add 150lbs of lead to the front of the car. Joe B built him 433 motors for all his historic races. This was all he was allowed to run. He also got additional rules about behaving on the track and who was to be the winners. When he was at SCCA 31 he had to put the orginial motor back in the car. He was amazing for he started last and ended up in the hay field at 120 mph cutting the grass, and laughed about it with the Cranky crew. Joe B. did build a couple of outlaw motors for Dick. I think there was a 488cid iron motor and a 500+ Aluminium motor. Joe B. builds big power and high revving motors. Dick said for his driving style there was TOO MUCH POWER. I would have never thought a race driver of his caliber saying too much of anything. He said there was problems controlling the drifting of the car with the big motors. I miss him for his fun and honest info. Today was the day he married Heather. Today is my 20th anniversary. What a strange day it was. Rick Lake
