Insurance
Hey guys, who are yall using for insurance an what are you paying. I have a big block. I talked to two insurance people 2 day. They want to limit your milage to 3000 miles a year. I usally put a 120 miles on it on the weekend an thats not including Sunday.

I am not sure there is a canned answer as many factors to include your age, location, claim history, bla Bla and research come into play. There are several threads in the archives so check that for some more answers.
A general direction I see working well is check with your Premium Insurance carrier first. Having your cars, house and other Toys all insured under 1 roof helps give you some bargaining power, or it does with me anyway. Have fun. Jeff C |
I went with NW. My original policy was 3K miles a year, but I was able to bump that up to 5K miles for about $70 per year.

I have to admit...I'm in the insurance industry (but I don't sell insurance)...and getting insurance for my car was harder than buying a multimillion dollar policy for my business. Crazy.
In the end, I went with American Collectors in NJ...5000 miles per year for around $875. http://www.americancollectors.com/ |
State Farm!
Extra vehicle, stated value, 7500 miles per year $650/year. And you have the BIG DOG behind you in case you wrap it around a tree! |
2500 miles
50K agreed value $325 American Collector Car Insurance (NJ) http://www.americancollectors.com/ |
Another alternative is American Modern Insurance Group, their Collector Series:

A few of us were talking insurance this weekend at a car show and a few names came up, Grundy, Lelandwest, and I believe the other was Classic Automobile Insurance....I hopefully will be able to insure mine with my State Farm agent, but we will see when the time comes...................

I checked out American Mod but you have to sign a form stating that you will NEVER take the car on an errand or to work, etc.

raclaims:
I checked with my agent and he confirmed the reply you received from American Modern, when I obtained my coverage a number of years ago, there wasn't a separate document. Mike mentioned there will be a change in the next few months which will allow for occasional/infrequent use in going to work, but not for errands. Some agents place additional emphasis on the restrictions. Probability ( ? ) the same restrictions are covered in the fine print with other policies. Mike mentioned he would be happy to assist in obtaining coverage if you want to contact him: Northeast Classic Auto Insurance P.O. I have also heard American Hobbyist is supposed to be reasonable??
|
agreed value, 5000 miles per year... approx. $500.00 per year.
try calling Robin Terry at MidWest Classic... great guy... great service. upon renewal, will probably back it down to 3000 miles per year. I don't drive it nearly as much as I thought I would. |
I have State Farm as a third car. No mileage limit and $516 a year. Guess I got a pretty good deal after reading some of the prices in here. I live in Virginia.

I carry American Family on all our vehicles, home, etc.
They have collector car insurance but many agents are unfamaliar with it. Last summer I was trailering my cobra on a long haul and the crank handle on the trailer roof vent came loose and fell on the top of the front fender, and left a nice 1/8" deep divot that was about 3/8" in diameter. The estimate for show quality repairs came in at $4990. The adjuster readily agreed that paint quality at that level was required, and that the front half of the car would have to be re-cleared. He went out to his vehicle to the computer, and in 5 minutes he came back into the garage with a check. There was absolutely no hassle at all over who would do the repairs or the amount. Plus, the only restriction on the cobra is that it be kept in a locked garage when not in use. No mileage restrictions or driving restrictions at all. Plus the rate is about $400 per year agreed upon value with high liability and full coverage. |

Define pleasure use only? Thanks |
I just received a letter notifying me that my policy that was underwritten by Great American Insurance Company (sold by Northwest Insurance) was sold to Infinity Insurance Company. One of the improvements that they highlight is that the 5,000 mile limit has been revised to "unlimited tier." Not sure what the change means.
