Brent's Keith Craft 482FE buildup
Well, I'm in the process of building an RCR GT MKIV, and I asked the folks at http://www.keithcraft.com/ to build something "appropriate" for such a ride. We settled on a Shelby block, 482, which ended up on the dyno with some impressive numbers. 594HP and 605TQ. Uhmmm...that oughta do!
I asked them to take some pictures and give me some captions, as I wanted to document the build of the car, and I have always wondered about what it takes to build these puppies. I know it's not rocket science, but to many of us, it seems like it. Anyways, below you'll find some pictures and descriptions of the process.
Boring, decking, and blueprinting done on RMC Machine
Here we are line honing the mains
Honing the block with torque plates
Honing bar inside block
Rotating assembly for engine build
Custom Keith Craft Diamond Pistons
Scat I-Beam 6.700 Connecting Rods
Pistons, pins, and rods before assembly
Crankshaft being balanced with correct bob weights
Heads being CNC ported in 5-axix CNC machine
Bare Edelbrock CNC ported Castings
Chamber and valve job on Edelbrock CNC castings
Exhaust ports on Edelbrock Castings
Shelby block with head and main studs, checking block for crankshaft rotation.
Shortblock with lifters and timing set installed.
Shortblock with damper and oil pan.
Long block ready for valvetrain installation.
Moly on the pushrods to keep from coming off lifter during assembly.
Engine on SF-902 for Dyno Test and Tune
Dyno #'s!

Brent-
Nice pics. What cam is in that? That looks like it is going to be a real nice motor- makes peak hp below 6k and 600ft/lbs of torque at 4300! Any idea what kind of torque it made lower in the rpm range? If it is making 600 at 4300, I would have to think it is over 400 by 3000 rpm. Hope you have a lot of money for tires!

Yeah, believe me, I'm not going to be doing any stand still burnouts. The 930 transaxles are stout, but....I'll need to be careful.

Brent,
I know you'll love the engine. Keith's Pond 482 that he built for me is literally amazing, tremedous power, Z-E-R-O oil consumption/blow-by, no drips, leaks or runs. 2K mile on the oil and it's still so light amber in color that I have to put on the reading glasses to read it on the dip stick.
What's the specs on the Comp Cams custom hydraulic roller?
Dave

Great motor and man does it run, but it leaks like crazy. Maybe just oil the engine doesn't like and spits out.

Brent,
You know the Mk IVs ran 2x4s inside a closed air box? That single four barrel just won't due.

Some had single some had dual. Both ways were in enclosed box and I'll be fabbing that up.

Cool Bent.
All the picks I have of the 1967 Mk IVs have 2x4s. I know you have done your homework.

Congrats on the engine!
The pictures of Keith Crafts shop deserve compliments too. What a nice set up. No wonder Keith has so many happy customers who compliment him all the time. I'd like to take a vacation there! I need a napkin to wipe up all the drool.

Rick, the same thought about the pan crossed my mind although the pic gives a distorted view of the pan depth. FE's sit nose high in GT to the tune of around 3° so it may be OK.
Two Holleys are the 'right' look for induction , but hell who cares, damn thing will be that quick nobody will be able to keep up to see under the hood/clip.

With the custom air box he has to build like on the originals I have seen it really doesn't matter.
The looks lf the Mk IV has grown on me real quick.
I like it better than the Mk II now.

Congrats Brent, I have basically the same engine coming as well.
Your pics are great. (shows me what mine looks like)
Kieth has quite the setup over there.
