Default Drain Plug for FE Oil Pan

I have a stock 427 S.O. with original high capacity oil pan (with windage tray). Now, I am looking to add an oil temp sending unit in the drain plug. What I am thinking of doing is getting a new drain plug and drilling and tapping for the sending unit to thread into the drain plug. Then when that looks how I want it, I will replace the old drain plug.

Does anyone know what the threads are for this ? The engine is full of oil, so it is a pain to take off and check if someone has a good idea.

I am not sure that would be a very good idea. I believe your capulary will be out of the oil part of the time giving you a false reading plus you really don't want anything else hanging down below your pan. Take the time to weld a bung on the top part of your oil pan that you can screw your sending unit into.

... and you might want to pull the pan before drilling a hole and welding a bung.

i am sure with the fe you are running a remote oil filter, why not plumb the
sender into a tee at the adapter plate on the side of the block?

Thanks for the suggestions. I have plumbed a "T" off of the remote filter. I measure temperature for the stock "oil" light and pressure for SW gauge. Since, the stock light for a 67' Fairlane is just a HOT/COLD light and I wanted more data I added a SW oil temp gauge. I could rob that location and not use the "HOT/COLD" light.

I did not want to cut and weld on the oil pan. It seems very hard to do in place and I defintely don't want to pull the engine.
