What crank and rods are needed for FE stroker
Hello all,
I am posting this for a friend. He has a 65 sideoiler 427 block that is bored .030 over.
He would like to find out what are his options for building a stroker. He already has the pistons and would need the crank and rods.
What combo do you guys recomend using the same .030 over pistons and what cubic inch will this equal.

Keith Craft sell a stroker kit, rods, pistons and crank for $2000. 482 c.i. Go to his site and check it out.
You can use a 428 crank and I think you have about 460 C.I

Did check the block and make sure it was safe to bore it .030

The problem with using the same piston is that they will have the wrong pin height for a stoker combination. You use a crankshaft with a longer stroke and a longer rod so the pin height is shorter. Unless he has some of the new after market pistons the others are prone to cracking the skirts and are naormally pretty heavy. If you are going .030 over you might want to see if the block will go to 4.250 which is .017 over and if not they do some stroker piston in the more common 4.260, 4.265, 4.270 and 4.275 b3cause it is a lot easier to get rings for these bore sizes. Maybe the engine has not been bored yet, and the plan is to go .030
I think standard bore is actually 4.233, or around there

I found from him that the motor is punched 30 over and he already has the pistons. I did not ask what brank pistons.
I think, like Keith has mention the only option might be to use a 427 crank unless the pistons are changed.

Are you sure the block is good at 30 over? a lot of 427 will not go 30 over!

Whatever ,if the machine shop bored it they beter have checked for porosity. If you have pistons and are stuck on not changing them ,then the rest of the rotating assembly is going to have to match the pistons,starting with the rods and then the crank.

As Keith has said, the pistons will dictate what rods and crank he can use. I would suggest to get a set of a 390 crank and rods, and have new bolts in the rods, shot peened, resized. That's the cheap way to go.
