Default 427 fuel pump

Hey all,

we're having problems with our Carter X fuel pump on our 427 from the starbord engine of our Chris Craft. Initially there was a hole in the diaphragm so it was producing pressure to pump the fuel. We just put in a new diaphragm from a 428 kit--b/c couldn't find a 427 kit--and now it pumps but not with adequate pressure. The reason we think there's not enough pressure sucking the fuel from the pump is b/c after replacing the pump yesterday and allowing the engine to turn over with ether we never got fuel to the carb. long story but short question...do you know where we can get a rebuild kit for the 427 or a new fuel pump or any other idea why it won't work. thanks.
Adam

Adam,

Good info here: http://www.428cobrajet.org/how-to-fuel-pump.html

BTW, according to this site your pump is a valuable rarity. http://www.mustangmonthly.com/howto/20438/index.html

Good luck!

Try priming the pump. Remove the fuel line from the carb and pour fuel down the fuel line from the carb end. Try to fill up the line. Put it back together and I'll bet she pumps fuel.

You might have a hole in the inlet line to the pump and you will pull air in before you get any fuel.

OR-

Try one of these- they are a little bigger than stock so make sure you have some room.
