Default Smith's Fuel Prs Ga needle fluctuations-self destruct

Has anyone seen and resolved this problem? I have a customer on his 3rd Smith's Fuel Pressure Gauge. After install, all is good. Needle fluctuations develop after first week. Instensity of fluctuations increasing over time to point where gauge becomes unusable as an indicator. Eventally, fluctuations reach full scale deflection, destroying gauge internal movement. Changing to digital, or brand other than Smith's is not an option. Nisonger has been contacted, but they are closed until Monday. Is there some regulator, restrictor or aperture called for in this application? How did you solve this problem?

Try a reducer at the guage. As small as you can get. This seems to help. Haven't seen one destroyed though.
