I think his entire problem could have been avoided had he used Fuel Fragrance.
Pina Colada is my preferred fragrance choice: http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...5&autoview=sku

I think they didn't remove the sidepipes from the headers. This would make it a biotch to reconnect the headers. I don't think SA would send out and engine with an odd exhaust pattern.
(please don't state all the different heads for FEs. I do not think it is relevant to my post. thank you)
I read the whole thread. It was interesting. Thanks for the watch info Jamo.

Yep, 427 Cobras were turds. That must be why they won all those times at LeMans....
You know, I learn something new everyday. Altering intake ports will make connecting rods exit a block.
This is exactly what happens when you read Chebbie magazines...

Who's "they"? Ferrari maybe? I've never heard anyone describe the Cobra as a "turd." Ever.

The Mark II, 427 side oiler GT-40 won Le Mans FOUR years in a row!
Research and development for the 427 Cobra was ordered STOPPED by Ford motor company in favor of R and D on the GT-40. Shelby, complying with Ford, turned his attention to the GT. A few folks were thrown a bone or two in order to continue what little R and D the 427 Cobra would see in it's short life. You gotta wonder, 'what might have been' had more dollars been spent on the 'Turd'.
Of course the actual "Turd" was the nickname for the first 427 Cobra, it was an alloy 390 experimental engine with the 289 leaf spring suspension. The later cars were designed with coil spring suspension utilizing a Ford Motor Company computer.

Sorry, I should have separated my sentences. I meant to say that 427 Cobras were not turds (sarcastically) and.....the 427's were in the LeMans cars.
This whole retort was because of a statement on another thread that 427's were turds and were known as "rod breakers" or "rod throwers" or whatever he called them.

I'm on my second bag of popcorn and thinking about getting another beer. This thread is getting a life of it's own.
Hey, why not just start a survey. List all engine biulders, list all failures by category and types, identify all special parts and their manufactures, engine horsepower range and costs and of course the mechanics names. Maybe we could do some comparing and determind which deals are the best value...Oh Ya..I forgot we must rate the owners mechanical abilities, driving skills and overall experience.
I just opened that second beer...UM...AH...so good.
Maybe we could just run everything through Club Cobra first, so new owners and members had to get our advice and approval prior to doing anything. A plan like this would take all the responsibility away from the folks and make everyone happy.....NOT!
I think I'll just drink the entire six-pack and then go take a nap.
Now, what do you think? Best regards, Old Bill

What is your point? You don't want to give anyone your opinion? Cuz I thought you have already done that on this thread.

I think someone looking for, and getting good advice is better off.

I believe the story goes something like this. Miles transplanted a FE into a 289 car, I believe different engines at different times, but the one most talked about is the all aluminum 390. He first raced the car I beieve in 1964, at the same race GM was introducing the GS vettes. Miles purposely dogged in the qualifying, and was positioned between two GS vettes at the start. After the first lap, he was about 40 car lengths ahead of the rest of the pack. There is a picture showing him coming upafter the first lap, I believe slowing down at the first corner at the end of the front straight, and in the distance you can make out a pack of cars at the beginning of the straight. What a great picture. The turd may have been ugly, but it was far faster than anything else at that time. I believe he was having suspension problems, and then maybe an engine problem where he had to slow down, and then dropped out of the race. The car was fast.
In 1965, whenever 427 cobra's , driven by amateur drivers, were raced side by side with team 289 cars, driven by professional drivers, the 427's always finished ahead of all the 289 cars. Not bad considering they were inferior cars driven by inferior drivers.

Actually, I believe after a MK II won in 1966, MK IV won in 1967, both with 427's, the FIA changed the rules, limiting displacement ? 5 liters, and the GT40 than won both in 1968 and 1969 was powered by a small block. Nascar however still ran the FE's during these years.

I was just thinking, what a great thread.
This is what Clubcobra is all about, and to know I'm a part of it as well.

Yes, and I'm betting that 98% of the Club Cobra readers didn't know that they could make their Cobra's exhaust smell like a Pina Colada.
