Tomorrow I pick up Superformance #113 with the new 482ci all aluminum FE with 601 hp.
A far cry from the cast iron FE that had 450hp.
The old engine was a great part of #113 and work well for 15,000 miles until turn #2 at Willow Springs. A piston desided to explode into 382 very small pieces. A decision was needed as to what replacement engine would replace the old reliable cast iron engine.
Talking with the Las Vegas Cobra members, Tom Bernard at Tom's Motorsports and Tony and Kieth at Kieth Craft Motors I was dizzy
with 756 options for the new engine.
Do I drop down to a stroked Windsor or stay with an FE. However, once an FE it should stay an FE.... or at lease a 427 FE from the outside. So, starting with an aluminum block I kept adding aluminum over cast and adding CI until we ended with the Kieth Craft 482 FE.
We have had a few issues with the carbuetor, but should be fixed now. We'll drive it during the next few days and see if any adjustments are needed.
After six months looking at an empty engine compartment
... Tomorrow should be a great day
