I`ve got dual quads on a BT intake on my 427 S/O in my Galaxie .... will that do ? If so , I can get some pictures sometime this weekend after some minor surgery .
I can also give you the setup instructions for the linkage that is out of the factory manual ... which is pretty darn close .

Thanks Larry, The one you posted and the one in your gallery has helped tremendously.

Mick, You have a PM.. thanks.

Bobcat, If you could get me pictures of the throttle cable side, the opposite side that Larry posted, that should get me on the right track. Also, that Ford set-up manual would be priceless!

Much appreciated to all, you guys rock!

Thanks Brent, I'll look at them when I get home. Your web hosting is blocked here at work.

Default Linkage

Ok

I have a question on he linkage. The kits I have see (cobrarestorers.com) show straight arms in the kit, yet all the ons in these pictures show bends and turns? Do you bend them to fit yourself or am I looking at the wrong kit?

I need to find a linkage for my 2x4 bbl 427 SO (BC/BD carbs) and the only one I have been able to locate is on cobrarestorers.com

Where else can i get my linkage?

Thanks

P.S. I need a fuel log as well.

Blue Thunder sells a decent kit - I'm certain they buy them from somebody...but they have the bends and washers and clips

DLOTZ, the linkage photos seen on this thread are of the FE dual quad setup. As you should have noticed, the carbs are arranged in reversed position in order to clear the distributor cap. The small block dual quad setup runs the carbs in the normal primary bores forward position. The small block linkage consists of straight rods and does not use a bell crank-pivot assembly as does the FE. You cannot use the straight rod linkage on a carb reversed setup.

eBay usually has a FE linkage setup offered for sale as well as trunnions and a fuel log. You will need to purchase a couple of trunnions that are not included with the FE kit. Other than eBay, Obsolete Ford Parts is a good source for these kits and the trunnions. There are two setups offered, one for the low-riser manifold and one for the medium/high riser intake.

That's a new one on me. The carbs are reversed to clear the dist.? I've only hade experiance with 2 dual quad set-ups; one on a 67 GT350 and one on my Boss302. Both were set up in the same manner with the carbs reversed. Back in the day I was told, by a guy with much more knowledge than I, that this was so because it put the primary veturies of the primary carb closest to the center of the engine and that otherwise I would have fuel ditribution problems at cruise speeds and throttle openings. What gives guys?

Now I am confused. I was under the impression that the dual quad setup for the 289 motor ran the carbs facing forward while the FE setup ran them reversed. At least this is the way I have always seen them. I have seen three 1967 Shelby GT350s up close and all three had a single Holley LeMans carb on the engine. Both 1970 Boss 302s I have seen also had single carburation. The only 289 dual quad setups I have seen were dealer installed options on a HIPO 289 and the Holleys faced forward. A long time ago when I inquired of a Ford expert why the carbs on the FE were reversed he explained that due to the positioning of the carbs on the FE intake the carbs were reversed to clear the distributor as well as place the primary throttles of the main carb (front carb) closer to the center of the engine. I must confess that I have never seen a small block with the carbs reversed. If this is not accurate I stand corrected.

Super, if what I said came off as a correction I apologize because that is NOT the way it was meant. I wrote that because I don't know enough to say for sure either way and am hoping that those who know more than I will chime in.

BTW, here is a pic of my Boss with a Shelby dual quad (over the counter of course):

Steve, not to worry. No offense taken. I was replying about what setups I have seen, not to imply that I am any sort of expert. Your Boss 302 with reversed carbs is just something I haven't previously heard of. Because your setup is OTC, I now feel better about what I previously said. I always try very hard to refrain from opening my mouth until I have my facts straight. Before seeing your photo, the only Windsor dual quad I have seen with reversed Holley carbs is the Price Motorsports intake for the 351W which, by the way for anyone interested, is a real beauty.
As a clarification, if a dual quad setup uses carbs facing forward, the linkage uses straight rods; if the carbs are reversed and therefore require a transfer shaft/bell crank, the rods are bent to clear the bell crank assembly. Anyway, I hope that we have answered the original question. Happy holidays to all.
