Value of 428 CJ heads?
Hello All...
I am ready to sell my 1969 428 CJ heads (C80E-N). They are complete w/ valves ,springs, rockers and shafts and in good shape. Anybody have an idea what they are worth? I need a start point to list them. thanks ahead.

Toby, Probably not worth much but you can send them to me to get them out of your way!
(I don't know what current market value is, but I do know someone will want them & pay good for them)

I sold a set of those same castings about 2 years ago that were complete but would need to be redone before use and I think they sold for about $500

You might want to advertise them on the forums for cars that ran the CJ motor like the Mustang and others. Someone looking for correct casting on a restore will likely pay more.

At one time ..they WERE the heads to get, well at least the ones I could afford. Now with an influx of much better aftermarket heads, they're value is mainly to restorers. The amount of money needed to make them comparable to some of the new heads would be equal or close the cost of the newer heads. Date code will play heavily in the value...and that should be a prominent part of any adverstising. While many CJ owners might like a spare pair, they are most valuable to someone with a car that the date code is appropriate for. As the years pass and age/wear take their toll on more parts, they become more prized.
The suggestion to put it on specific forums is a good one. There are a few CJ specific forums that would be a great place to start. Keep in mind, that because you have said they are redone( very few aren't), you might have some requests for pics...maybe with the valves out on a cylinder as well as the underside for an indication of how much they've been cut. Because the market is dependent on WHO is looking at any given time, the value is hard to pin down. You could look at some of those same sites and get a feel for what is being asked and that should get you a rough figure...again if you should find the guy that has the right production date and needs some heads...you should come out fine, they are always desirable.

Did you decide to put the KC aluminum FE in the ERA or are you just going to drop aluminum heads and intake on the original side oiler?
PS
There is a big ford swap meet coming up in March near me. I want to go. I can watch for prices for you. If I run into anyone looking for your heads, I could give them your number if you want.
Hell send me an add and I'll print it and tape it to my back.

Olddog,
I got a set of Keith's stage 1 aluminum heads and some cool rockers and bolted them up.
turns out the bore on my sideoiler was only .015 and every thing was clean and good to go so, no rebuild. Of course the damn things only got 6700 miles on the motor.
Toby
