I guess I need a better definition of compatibility. I take it to mean they will not adversely affect one another, not that they combine to form one together. Hopefully a lubeoligist will chime in. I have always wanted to do what you are doing but was always informed not too. Our local Mobil Rep suggest against it for the reason I gave earlier, you will have two different compatible oils instead of one homogeneous oil.

I am referring to generic over the counter oils availabe at autozone, i have no idea about brad penn oils.

Ol' Joe is even kind of enough to provide you with a downloadable PowerPoint slide presentation showing you the exact effect on viscosity by combining different ounces of different oils with one another. Take a look at this and see if it helps: http://www.joegibbsracingoil.com/Dow...BlendChart.ppt

Thanks, they obviously know more than I do. I do not understand how they combine polymers strands of different lenghts to create an average length. It must take place in the heat of the motor but if that were the case multi-viscosity oil would be toast after the first heat cycle. Interesting information.

Either that or they figure you're just gonna rebuild your engine after the next race anyway.

elmariachi, What made you go w/strait 40 when it seems so many people are affraid of strait wght oils. I personally was gonna try some kendal gt-1 sae 50 weight.

We wrapped up the engine build in early March, and it was already pretty warm here in Houston. Knowing that we would be tuning/timing and messing with the engine as we were finishing the car (and given that its in the 70's-90s here now) I wanted a good thick oil with max ZDDP for the first couple of oil changes. So I bought a couple of cases, one was used at break-in on the dyno and the other is in it now. If all goes well we'll be on the road with the finished car this weekend, and at some point I'll likely go to 10-40 or something similar and add ZDDP. I do plan on driving it year-round here and a straight weight oil is not suitable long-term in this type of car for my use.

Also, now I have a good oil pressure baseline. Straight to 70 lbs upon cold start, and 40lbs at hot idle. Who knows what it will do down the highway because I have not left the neigborhood yet. But I need to quick, I am pissing off the neighbors at an alarming rate.
