I use a flat tappet cam and shell lifters. I removed the intake manifold and had it pressure tested for porusoty before I had it ceramic coated. Afterwards when reinstalliing the manifold I pulled a couple of the heli-coilc for the rocker stands. Then I noticed that I couldn't remove a couple of the lifters. It turned out that I had flattened two lobes on the cam shaft and mushroomed those two lifters. I removed the engine and had it gone through no real damage , the cam came out normally but those two lifters had to come out the bottom. Everything got caught in the filter. The Oil pump may have suffered but I was going to replace it because of wear on the hex drive. I bought another set of shell lifter plus two more and a new cam shaft from Comp Cams and pushrods from smith brothers in Org. I ws really concerned about break in procedure. I heard about the ZDDP later. Wary back when solid shell lifters were all I used never had a problem myself, but the oils were different then

Yep, it's zinc that is missing from our life blood oil. Several additives are out now. I rebuilt my 428 back in 2004, due to breaking a rocker shaft. We were headed to "Americruise" after shoveling down food at Village Inn. I heard a pop, shut it down, pulled over and didn't see any problems. Fired it back up, sounds sick but, went ahead to the show. The next morning, I took the valve covers off and at #1 cylinder, the rocker shaft was broke, both valves stuck shut (how'd that happen and the intake push rod was bent 90 degrees inside the manifold ! This time, I bought END STANDS ! lol
FE'S ???

Back then my 428 was my realy special to me,It had new but original Ford steel adjustable rockers and shafts and aluminum stands. But it fails when compared to my 427. It came with Aluminum Dove Super Canadian Cobra Jet replica heads with big valves double springs with dampeners, and Dove roller rocker set with the masive shafts ,stands ,and end stands. The aluminum heads came with heli-coils installed in the heads but I had to change them out for larger steel inserts that had larger contact area with the aluminum heads to take the force exerted with valve springs.

As allways. If it's a bad time to sell an FE engine than it'll probably be a good time to buy one. That is the way things work. Supply and demand. As wiith all things timing and location are everything. You can affect your sale by presenting it in the right situation ( whats your story) and adjusting your price at the right time. If it appears to be too cheap you will loose the buyers that are looking for something special. You can always be a hero later after you can get a buyer hooked and lower your price. If it's too expensive the budget buyer will just pass your offering and keep looking.

Michael,
If your 427 burns gas like mine did you could use the 360 to pump fuel to it.

More to boat owner than a Cobra owner.

Probably not a lot. To regain correct rotation, you need to change the crank (wrong oil grooves at the end seal) and cam (and lifters). Not sure, but probably the dist too (due to the drive gear). And it is most likely a center-oiler vs the more desireable side-oiler. I'd say top dollar would only be $1000, but I coudl be way off.....
hmmmm....a 390 crank might work. Might be worthwhile to do the conversion yourself and then try to sell it.

Good for a street motor. The 390 crank is interchangeable, as is the 390 dist. gear. Shouldn't need a side oiler for the street, and you can use synthetic oil if you're concerned. Not worth the big bucks like that of a side oiler, though. I'd take it for the right price.
