Question edelbrock fe intake and porting?

i have the edelbrock victor fe fuel injection manifold for my 445 stroker build part number 29365, i noticed the runners are real small compared to my keith craft stage 1 edelbrock heads. how much work do these intakes need to flow properley?, i am nervous about touching it because of the pushrod holes are close to the runners. i am running mass flo fuel inj on my fe if you were wondering .

I have 428fe with ed rpm heads and intake. I noticed the intake were way off and had it port matched. The heads were right on. I think it took them two hours.

The Victor responds pretty well to even a good port match going about 2-3 inches into the runner. We mark up the opening against the head and use the Bridgeport to get to about .090 from the pushrod tube - and hand blend from there.

Default Have the job done right

wrench87 Go to the FE forumn and find Joe Craine. He does a complete intake porting on the intake manifold. The intake looks like jewerly when done and flows alot better. Some of the ports are 8-35 cfm off from the rest. It's worth ever penny. His turn around time is about 1 week. This removes the lean running cylinders. The polishing of the ports also helps because of the upper dry intake we run from the FI system. Rick L.

The Victor series manifolds were designed for "race engine" applications by Ebok and subsequently purpose cast with necked down intake runners. That allows the manifold to fit a multitude of heads and different applications with some port matching, which is assumed to be done with a "race engine" anyway. As Barry said run your port matching 2 to 3 inches up into the runners, being aware of you pushrod hole to intake runner wall thickness. I don't like polishing the inside of already high flowing intake runners, like the Victor has. It hurts the already deficient fuel atomization and charge mixing.

My tunnel wedge was essentially the same way out of the box, necked down intake runners that required extensive port matching.

Before you button it up make sure you're not getting excessive pushrod hole to pushrod contact too. A lot of aftermarket manifolds required pushrod hole clearancing, especially with big cams 'n fat heavy duty pushrods.

Default Different surfaces for the ports

UNDY Dave if you are running a wet manifold you will have a different surface finish of the ports. Wrench is running a dry manifold, a polished surface is better for flow, smoother is better. Have tryed rough surface, with a pcv valve working at the base of a Throttle body it slows the air flow and cokes up over time. Rick L.
