i have had 3 lucas switches fail recently (older 1990) is there a better brand to replace them with?

Cole-Herse makes good quality switches. they supply, or used to supply OEM's

yep, i have the CH headlamp and ignition switch in mine. switch life can be degraded for the headlamps if the load is on the switch. installing a relay can extend the switch life.
same goes for high amp loads on the ignition switch, like fans, or fuel pumps.
