Default Fuel injection fuel pump system / spf / efi

Greetings, -- I was going to post this over on the SPF section, but this is more of a generic query than a SPF specific query.

Who here has a fuel-injected SPF >?

I have 4600 miles on my SPF with EFI and I have been a happy camper with only a few frustrations. --one of which is lower fuel level performance. It seems anything below 1/2 a tank (indicated) seems to not get the fuel pressure (seemingly , as there is no FPG in the dash) of a full tank.

I wanted to get an idea of fuel pump strategies and tubing schematics to see if I am missing something.

Question - does anyone have a picture of the generic fuel pickup in the SPF tank >?

Does anyone here use a low pressure pump to feed an accumulator canister prior to a high-speed pump. ( thinking of this as a solution, prior to ripping out tank and modding)

Thoughts, suggestions, drawings welcome.

Steve

While not an SPF, I recently converted my car from a carb to Dynatek EFI. I ran an Aeromotive 11203 LP pump with the carb set-up and am running an Aeromotive A1000 HP pump with the FI. They recommend to run the A1000 inlet at or below the level of the fuel tank feed. Since I was unable to do that due to room constraints, I am feeding a swirl pot mounted in the trunk with the 11203. The pot that I found on e-bay, has a 8an inlet on top, a 10an outlet on bottom, and (2) 6an inlets on the side. One for the return from the engine bay and one to return fuel to the tank. So basically the LP pump just keeps the pot full and returns any excess to the tank. There are pics in gallery of the setup. I installed dash gauges to monitor both the pressure at the engine and the LP pump pressure, plus visual gauges on the pot to monitor pressure drop. The HP pump maintains 50 psi with no variation, while the LP pumps runs 3.5 psi with the tank full, but will slowly drop, with the tank level, down to 1.5 psi when empty. However the drop on LP pump pressure does not affect the HP pressure when the tank is low.

I've seen several SPF's with the same problem. There isn't a sufficient sump area for the pickup to maintain fuel feed when the tank is low on fuel. It sloshes around in the tank too much.
As Brad noted, using a swirl pot will solve the issue. About 1 gallon size is plenty. Pretty straight forward to setup and install.
