I may not explain it very well but it occurs when a the flame of the burning air/fuel is interuppted by an explosion of the mixture outside of the flame such as timing is too far advanced and the mixture has not been compressed to the optimum point to where it will all burn evenly. It can very substantialy raise the pressure in the cylinders with the pounding explosion to the point that your pistons wind up in your oil pan. It can be very mechanical sounding like a spark knock, but worse.

Thanks Jeff, keep me advised to progress via email if you will.

I see no reason you can't run in the 10s, you haven't been to the drags enough to get the hang of it but I like the progress that you've made

Corey and I will be there when the club goes again

Jerry

Default Update

Heads were removed. Pistons/cylinders show no signs of being burnt or excessivley worn. Engine is going on a stand next Monday and pistons will be pulled to check the rings. That leaves valves out of time with the pistons. Since it was dynoed at 650hp you gotta think the cam somehow slipped way out of time. It never did idle very well, but we attributed that to the injection needing fine tuning.

I am getting this 3rd hand so I have questions also.

Default Consider this...

Let's not be too hasty. In not knowing what the problem was I narrowed it down to the likely disiplines and asked for help. This discussion has benefited everyone from all disciplines. I think it is narrowing down to a fuel delivery problem, but a reasonable thinking man could easily mistake it as a mechanical problem and miss this discussion because he did not happen to look in the fuel injection forum. Many people also search one forum thinking the problem is isolated. It is to everyone’s benefit to bring their experience to bear and help each other out. This is a tricky issue that is not easily discernable as to the cause. Besides, there is no harm done.

Too many times issues or ideas are stifled for the sake of one whining nitwit (big or small) and you can well imagine what I think of that.

Now Ron, since your charge is to moderate you have but to IM me after reading this.
