Default Fuel used at WOT question

How much fuel is used by, say, a 500HP engine at WOT. Best I can tell based on a quick internet search is about 40-50 gallons per hour. Does this sound right?

say your injectors flow 40 lbs an hour at a certain psi, 8 injectors at 80%duty cycle would be 32 x 8 = 256 #'s per hour, fuel is 6 or 7 lbs per gallon, or 35-40 gallons per hour, or what you said.

everytime i turn around it seems i have to fill up the jbl, 12 gallons doesn't go very far with 11-15 mpg.

that reminds me of an interesting article i read but can't find now, they did an experiment with different a/f ratios. they started at 16 or 15-1 and an engine at wot only lasted a few minutes, they kept increasing the ratio and at 12-1 the engine still only lasted about 20 min. before it burned a hole in the piston if i remember right.

Here is a calculator:

http://www.witchhunter.com/injectorcalc1.php4

If you can find your injector spec it will say what the HP rating is at a given fuel flow. From there you can recalculate the pressure based on the needed HP.
