Yankee Air Museum Report
Although the notice was short with very little advertising, the run to the Yankee Air Museum was very successful. The 10 Cobras that attended received a unique opportunity to take some great pictures thanks to Bill Hanney, Yankee Air Museum Vice President.
Right from the beginning the people at the museum made a fuss over us. First, they directed us to park under the wing of a B52 Flying Fortress so they could take pictures of the cars with the plane. We all got our cameras out and started taking some neat pictures. The mechanics and volunteers at the museum treated us to informative and emotional stories about each of the aircraft inside the hanger. After hearing the great history about all the planes, we started looking for our next spot for a great picture. One of the volunteers suggested it would be neat to line up the cars in front of the hanger. He was right. Having a B17, the workhorse of the U.S. Air Force's heavy bombers in the European Theater in the background, was some sight to see. Everyone in the museum came out to take pictures. We then moved to a jet bomber in the park. It was really fun...
Prior to the event, the museum put out an advertising flyer saying “Come see classic high performance cars parked amid classic high performance aircraft- a great photo op”. The ad was right on. Everyone had a good time taking pictures and getting a history lesson from the very people that made it.
This run was put together rather quickly, so I’m already making plans with the museum for next year. The goal is to make this one of the “MUST DO RUNS”. Based on the telephone calls with the museum, I can tell you they are very excited about having us come back next year!
Thanks,
