Did any of you guys attend the special gala event for Carroll Shelby at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, this past Wednesday? If so, did you get to meet him? Got any stories to share?

I met him for a minute. They had some spectacular cars from special collectors. They had a Daytona Coupe and the J car that won Lemans with Andretti to name a few. Bob Bondurant was there and drove Carroll around in a golf cart to see the collection. What made this evening different is that there were only a few hundred people present and it was easy to get to Carroll unlike in larger venues where you cannot even get close. I think he signed a few items but was not really there to sign things. Some popel were lucky and some were disappointed in that regard. Given his age, I thought this may be the last time I see him in person. He is still very sharp mentally and very engaging. All in all a good experience in my point of view.

Wish I could've been there, but work had me chained to the desk all last week. Couldn't make the five-hour drive.

I've found a few online articles on the Shelby Showcase and Gala. I read there were about 45 cars in the display, including Cobras, Shelby Mustangs, GT40s and much more.

Did you note any of the Cobra chassis numbers?

From what I can figure, many of the cars came from the late Larry Miller's collection and from Legendary Motorcar. Of note, there was CSX2002, CSX2196 (flip-top), CSX2299 (Daytona Coupe), a 289 FIA and 289 USRRC (possibly CSX2345 and CSX2488 respectively), CSX3009 (Essex Wire), CSX3235 (grey-blue street car), and a red "barn find" 289 street car. There were also a green 427 and silver w/black 427 that could've been CSX4000/6000 continuation cars, or something else. And lastly there was the 2004 Ford Shelby Cobra and 2005 Ford Shelby GR-1 concept cars first seen at the Detroit auto show.

They also had the GT40 that won Lemans with Andretti. It was the J car and there was also the GT40 MK 1 run by Comstock Racing. I beleve the CSX numbers you quoted are correct but there were no continuation cars on hand. Lyn Park had two of his 289 cars there.

Ahhh, thanks for the tip. So therefore the 289 FIA must be CSX2259 which is owned by Lynn Park.

As for the 289 USRRC car, I can't figure out if it's CSX2431 or CSX2494. I had assumed it to be Larry Miller's CSX2488, but I'd be surprised if he'd had the fullsize windshield replaced with a small racing screen on such a valuable and original car.

You might have noticed that I've started a thread on the Shelby Showcase cars and will update it as I find out more.

The two cars in front of the flip top had a sign and I think they are both from Lynn Park. In one area of the display they had two replicas and a Shelby Series 1 that was owned by a local Toronto guy. I believe that there are only 3 or 4 continuation cars in Canada. One was built by Sean Hyland and is on his site, and another was recently for sale by 427Snake who is on this forum. Both of those were glass cars. A third car was for sale in Toronto a few years ago. It was a black alloy car, but it may have been glass as well. The fourth car is an alloy supercharged and dry sumped car in a private collection. None of these cars were there.
