2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the AC/Shelby Cobra.
There are many special events taking place in the U.S. and Europe to commemorate the occasion, but I'm not aware of anything being planned in Canada. What are my fellow Canuck Cobra owners doing to celebrate the 50th anniversary?
Personally, I'll be travelling to the U.S. to take it a couple of major activities. I'm attending SAAC-37 at Watkins Glen racetrack in June. Then I'm off to California in August for the Monterey Historics at Laguna Seca, the Concours on the Avenue at Carmel and the Pebble Beach Tour d'Elegance.
I'm also going to see if our local group of Cobra owners wants to put something on in Ottawa.

Sadly, one of the ways we'll be remembering the 50th anniversary is by celebrating the life of Carroll Shelby, who passed away May 10th in Dallas TX.
I never had the pleasure of meeting Shelby, but he touched my life in many ways.
My first glimpse of his Cobra changed me forever, and I've been 100% "snake bit" ever since. From my interest in the Cobra, I discovered all of the things that Carroll Shelby achieved as a driver, a car builder and a man.
I had hoped to meet him this summer at either the SAAC-37 convention or the Monterey Historics, but knew that his health was failing and that he might not be well enough to attend. Shelby has overcome the odds so many times that I just wanted to believe he'd do it again.
I'll be firing up my Cobra today in his honour. RIP Carroll Shelby (Jan 11, 1923 - May 10, 2012).
