Does anyone know what your spring rate is on your rear coil overs? I'm assuming your setup is also in front of your half shafts? Moving the spring forward from the traditional leaf would mean you would need a higher rate also.

Wow, that high? The leafs I have seen for a Vette go from 310 to 400. I was guessing around 500.

My suspension was developed for the track, although I drove it on the street as well. I've got every spring from 400 to 900 in 50# increments and a few at 25# increments. I want to say the my original Vette Brakes sport spring (leaf) was 550. What I found was that the more I reduced body roll, the more stable the car became. While the C-4 rear suspension was a major improvement in the area of toe control, it isn't perfect. The stiff springs, by reducing roll, reduced bumpsteer and therefore increased stability. Nearly every modification to my rear suspension, and there are many, are aimed at limiting toe changes. I found this one area to be the single biggest factor in whether the chassis was downright scary to drive at the limit or completely comfortable to drive on the edge.

Also, a 700# spring on my suspension may provide the same wheel rate as a 500# spring on yours. There is no way of knowing without looking at motion ratios and shock angles.

Agree, what do you think works best as far as location, coil over at the original shock location? Or if you put it at the original leaf location? It may be possible with a bit of rework to the differential mount to move the spring in back. One is in front of, other behind the half shafts. I remember reading springs work better forward.
I just measured my trailing arm. The shock is 10.5 inches from the mounting, the leaf is 19.0 inches. That is a 45% change, so a ballpark # would be 350# would change to 665#. Wow again! Add in that a Cobra weighs less. 700# would equal 368#. Seems pretty damn good!

I've never done any calculations or even studied the C3 stuff very closely. I'm satisfied with the coilover mounted in the C4 shock location. My motion ratio is .678 and the shock is at 15 degrees... or .630 effective (700# = 440 WR). I feel I've reached a point of diminishing returns due to the lack of chassis rigidity.

Scott,
Who manufactured your springs and shocks? QA1 offers spring rates up to 650. The next down is 600. Maybe they have C3 style shocks. Not that I would need more but I want more choices.

Ralphy,
I've have Dynamic dampers with 2" ID x 5" length Hypercoils. I think they go up to 3000#/in. When I was on the 2.5" ID springs I ran 2.5 ID x 7" or 8" Hypercoils and they went to 1300#/in.

Lol!
Ok, that takes me back to where I started with searching composite leafs, Hyperco. They put me in touch with VanSteel, which recomended the coil over. Great info, guessing I can use a 2.5 Hyperco coil with QA1's. The 2.5 X 10 goes up to 900#.
Thanks Scott
