1988 427 NAF, factory built w/ 289 FIA rollbar, 8 inch rear w/ 4 link and panhard bar w/ drums, Mustang II front w/ discs, and hydroboost PB from a one-ton Dodge. Built for a young man from PA (his mother paid).
Purchased it 5 years ago w/ 6k miles and decided to rebuild the engine b/c none of the past 4 owners changed the
oil (filter had an interference fit w/ frame rail).
Built a 331 w/ stock FMS J302 AL heads, Comp Cams hyd roller, Milodon AL water pump, Melling HV
oil pump, Canton pan, Mallory ignition, repro Cobra intake, Holley 650 DP, Hooker Comp headers and sidepipes. Engine made 397 TQ @ 4600 and 380 HP @ 5900 w/o carb tuning. Small input toploader w/ 3.55 rear gears.
The car drives well, considering the OEM Mustang II front. Nothing wrong w/ it, it works, but it's too wide and NAF's installation workmanship was poor. However, it's real problem is that the 295 rears push the 205 fronts around -- but larger front tires are problematic.
