Hi All,
Picked up a half built Streetbeast kit from another builder. I understand they've gone by the wayside, so I'm having some challenges finding parts. In particular, I'm looking for a set of exhaust headers and side pipes for a 302 engine. I would like to have them black ceramic powder coated, which I can do after the purchase if needed.
Any direction from the members here would be most appreciated!
Thanks,
Reddy

Hey Redeye,Too many variables motor placement, body on frame placement for header cutouts.Suggestion,we had our headers custom built at Tubular Automotive in Mass in 1994 then sent them out for powdercoating.Unless someone makes headers for these cars another option would be pickup a set of premade headers and modify them to fit your car.Been away from the building phase too long but certain someone will chime in.Good Luck

Thanks. I was guessing that custom builds may be required. Te other challange is determining what type of muffler/glass pack/ect to use and how to have this installed in oer to acheive a nice sounds as well as some sound control so that its not too loud. Thanks again.

This is a tough one without you being able to hear different exhaust to compare. The other factor is how your engine is built cam, cubic inches etc.Stainless Specialties has some good choices and they are great to talk with.Good Luck

Another thing to consider is the sidepipes. The streetbeast header flange location is in a unique position compared to other makes. I recently purchased FFR type sidpipes only to find that the pipes did not simply fit. Wound up cutting and making a hybrid. I often thought had I have to do it over I would go with a style of headers offered by "fenderboyhotrods". Then flange and cut to match the FFR style side pipe-but there are lots of ways to skin the cat.

I ended up ordering pipes and headers from Shell Valley, they are slip fit so we'll see if thats a good thing or not, but i'm told they will fit the car fairly well. I'm going to have them flat black ceramic coated, and anything else to make them less warm after use.

Sounds like a good plan redeye- Let me know how they turn out!! Lots of us have questions about options on sidepipes and headers.

Pipes received, doing a test fit right now. So far they look pretty good and appears that they will fit without major concerns. Very happy about this. Tomorrow we'll mock up the fiberglass body and get a real feeling of any necessary additional work which may be required before the final install. I'll post photos in a month when we have the actual engine (not a dummy block) so you can see. As per the Streetbeasts frame....what a mess. We have cut out and re-welded about 80% of the factory welds in order to 1) straighten the frame, and 2) result in what I would consider a road ready and safe vehicle. Its sufficiently bad that if I had realized this when I picked up the kit, I probably would have gone with another brand. The good news about this is that we'll be ready and able to install a custom strengtheners without too much weight, including some side impact cage which will be below the door level, but offer considerable stiffness and protection.

Sure brings back memories of the frustrations indured while building our car.It certainly was worth all of it in the end.Honestly I believe that is what makes the end result so much more enjoyable. The tweaks may go on for a long time even after the car is on the road.
