Hello All,
Thinking about re-enforcing the lower edge of the dashboard with rod or bar to stop it from vibrating, but also build an extension down to the transmission tunnel to make a center console and tie the dash to the tunnel. Has anyone done this? Have you installed extra gadgets and gauges or whatever? I don't have room in the normal location for a glove box, so thinking about this area for some sort of storage also. This car is meant for cruising, so I'm looking for a little more comfort items installed. Cup holders maybe? Harry

Hello All,
I guess that a center console is more normal than I thought. Shell Valley Cobra offers a fiberglass console panel to connect the dashboard to the transmission tunnel. It is large enough to be a cut to fit installation, which makes sense. With the panel, you are free to make whatever installations that you want.

I'll have to check it out as well. I thought about adding cup holders in my console. As far as adding something to connect dash to console, have you thought about a thin piece of wood?

Hello ziggy75,
The console that I am referencing is a vertical panel linking the center dash panel to the transmission tunnel. I do woodworking, but I think that I'd stick with fiberglass for sameness and durability. That area is open to all kinds of possibilities.

It's too bad that this group has somewhat went idle.

I will probably put something there as well. Just not sure what at this point. I also want to narrow the tunnel to gain foot pedal room.

Hello ziggy75,
It's too late to modify the tunnel on my car. That would cause too much to change after having finished out that area of the interior. I'm not all that tall so I think that I can deal with the narrow and crowded foot well, I'll just have to find out. I don't have access to the car during the winter, but I still monitor this web site to see if anything is happening. Maybe others are hibernating also.

I'm not using the fiberglass dash. I fabricated an aluminum one that's straight across on the bottom. I plan on installing dash support bars like those pictured in this cobra.

I haven't posted much because I haven't worked on my project lately. Need to find a place to work on it that's closer to home!

Hello Tony Laboy,
I'm thinking that a fiberglass panel connected to both the bottom of dash board and top of the transmission tunnel will stiffen the dash board somewhat besides being able to add accessories to, but I also think that a couple of horizontal bars running from the bottom of the dash board to the firewall will strengthen the center dash pretty well. I'm also thinking about installing a passenger grab handle where a glove box would normally be, so a stiffened dash board would be good for that too.

I welded up a thin pc of steel to two angled pcs of steel tubing then welded another right angle pc across top. I was trying to replicate the original dash support as well as a connection from tunnel to dash. I had it powder coated black. It really ties things together.

I had two sets of seat shells so I used one to make an extension.
