One of the hinge pins on my trunk hinges somehow worked its way loose and disappeared. A 3/16" spring pin appears to be about the correct diameter but, of course, it doesn't have the slightly enlarged, knurled surface intended to hold it in place once driven in.

Any suggestions, other than replace the hinge assembly? Can the pins be purchased separately? If I have to replace the hinges, where do I get them and what am I looking for? IOW, what vehicle were these things originally equipped with (e.g. TR3)?

What about just peening your pin on one end to make it fit tightly in the hinge when you drive it in and use locktite to keep it in place, or just use locktite if it fits tight.

The 3/16" spring pin is tight on the blind end, but a bit too loose on the open end where the splines on the head of the missing hinge pin engaged the hinge body.

One of the members in a local club I'm involved in has offered to machine me a new pin if I can get him the dimensions. I'm working on that now and hope to get him to machine me a new pin from stainless rod or a bolt.

If that doesn't work I may end up cutting the 3/16" spring pin to length and using an adhesive of some kind to hold it in place - though that is Plan B at this point.

I ended up with a new pin, machined from brass. While the brass is certainly a different colour than the hinge, it won't rust, it's pretty small and it's on the inside of the hinge (right side on left hinge).
