Has anyone modified or removed their Baffles? The reason I ask is while I am waiting for parts to show up from Jegs (new temp sender) I decided to work on the rattle in the exhaust and found the drivers side had only about 8 inches of packing and the passenger side was almost full of packing.

So if this is the case I was half tempted to cut the baffles down about a foot on each side then reinstall without the packing at first to see if I like the sound and to hopefully get rid of the rattle.

Thoughts?

Also could this cause an engine temp difference? Since one side would have more back pressure than the other. Maybe I am just doing things to stay busy till I can drive again.

Okay after reading almost every post on the Club Cobra Forum concerning Baffles I have come to the conclusion that the ones in our West Coast Cobras are way too small. I have removed them for now and will find a source for a better option. Per one post the calculator that was shared said that the 2 inch inner baffles (rough measurement on my part) would only allow 328 HP... ugh this is horrible. Exhaust Size Calculator

My cobra running without the baffles... Also it took over 10 minutes for it to warm up to 180 degrees with baffles it would be at 180 in less than 5. one of the fans kicked on and cooled it down instantly. I will take if for a drive tomorrow and see if it makes a difference on the road.

After buying the car in 2014 I pulled my side pipes apart and discovered the inserts were about 1 5/8" ID - suitable for a Toyota Corolla 4-banger. I also discovered one was installed with the louvres facing forward and the other facing backward. The packing was okay, but I'd say it was about 90% there in one side and about 80% on the other.

No packing anymore in mine, I now have auger muffler inserts. I bought them (3.5") from Summit Racing. https://shop.patriotexhaust.com/patr...er-insert.html

My question is how did you keep them from rattling? It is the rattle that drives me crazy. If the augers don't rattle I will switch.

Mine are about 2.25" and I removed all the packing. I will fix them and after about 6 months they start rattling again, drives me nuts.

Part of the rattle that I see and hear is the area where the header and the exhaust connect. I am planning to install a stainless steel band or compression clamp. I think it is 4 inch at the connection but need to measure.

This is so much like the rest of my car, more stuff to dig out and get rid of... wow. Mine is very much not the machine in the WCC manual. And now, I've got something else to do to fix it.

My auger inserts rattled when first installed, so I pulled them out and bent the plates to make them a tight fit in the side pipes. They were tight enough that I needed a 5 pound hand sledge and a block of wood on the centre tube to drive them in.
