My car es equipped with a Doug Nash 5 speed transmission, the shifter is the short type and at times it is very hard to shift. My wife would like to drive the car but shifting is very hard for her. I am considering a longer shifter by Hurst but I cannot determine which model to buy that would fit. Any thoughts from anyone please would be appreciated.
I am watching this on e-bay

Having a richmond 4+1 in my car I can say that it doesn't shift smoothly at all. Just got some work done by a engine performance shop and he said and I quote "It sure doesn't shift like a Tremec" He also told me all the Richmonds he has driven drive pretty much the same.

Yup my mechanic said the same get a Tremec, but that's not happening any time soon LOL. So for now we have to do with this one.

First let me ask what type and manufacture of gear
oil
are you using in the Transmission?

I use Red Line 70W90 NS
synthetic
in mine - it's approved by Richmond Gear.
The description on Red Line's Web page includes the following: "Appropriate coefficient of friction for most manual transmission synchronizers (other's
synthetic
gear oils are often too slippery for proper synchro engagement)"

Red line if very good, I was actually hoping you would have said something thicker so I could suggest a better option... but you already have a good
oil
.

Good info on why our Richmonds don't shift well. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQMmXd0e91U"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQMmXd0e91U[/ame]

Sadly I checked with the guy and he no longer works on customers transmissions as he is too busy building his own.

Lou, one other note, I just got done readjusting my Shifter. It was off by about 1/4 inch for first/second gear. Once I readjusted it, it made a world of difference in my shifting. It can still be a little hard, but it is so much easier than it was.

Joey:
sorry for the late response but we just got back from Europe, I had the transmission shifter readjusted and it was quite off, it works fine now. I still have a bit of hard shifting but I am told that this is germane to the Douh Nash Trannies.
