Hi Guys,

Just wanted to introduce myself to the group. I recently bought my car from a friend who ran out of steam building the car. Him and his father were doing the car together but his father passed away and my friend just doesn't have the time to put into the car anymore.

My friend and his father had to take the car back to the bones and start over...there are a couple of problems with it the major one being that I need a fuel tank, Anyone rebuilt their fuel tank or have a design for one that fits on the shelf? I was thinking that I would look into the possibility of using a marine under deck tank if I can find one that fits.
The interior. The parts of mine that roll over the top of the doors is loose and looks like hell same for the vinyl that goes over the door sills I can't even close my passenger door because the vinyl bunches up.
Anyway hope that I might be able to pick your brains for some help so I can actually enjoy the car.

Welcome to the forum and as a West Coast Cobra Owner. Gas tank... Check out Xack's album, best looking tank for the WCC in my opinion. Can't wait to tackle this this coming winter.

I second the recommendation for Xack's tank design. I used his design and had one built locally. Works like a charm. Roughly 24 US gallons.

welcome to the forum, I can understand your frustrations of car building. While I did not build mine, I did build a 1983 Jeep CJ-7 from the ground up. That been said, if you need any input I suggest a great guy to call is Perry Adams in the Syracuse NY area who is a dealer for WCC. He built his own and became a dealer. Don't go there - unless you can find one that's been sealed to be impermeable to gas fumes.

In doing my tank research, I discovered poly tanks are permeable to gas fumes, though apparently some are lined in order to make them impermeable - though that seems like a recent development. They're really made to be put either in a shell or case (effectively sealing them) or, alternatively, used in an open environment where the gas fumes can escape. Putting them in a trunk just allows the gas fumes to work their way through the poly and then be captured in the trunk.

It takes good materials and installation to make a quality finished product. If either the materials (e.g. wrong tank for the application) or the installation is sub-par, there is no way to end up with a safe, quality finished product.

mine is 22 gallon and its custom fit. on the "shelf" and extends down to the bottom of the trunk. upside down "L" (from the side). Aluminum tank, baffles, epoxy coat. pressure tested.etc.. see my gallery pics.
