3G Alternators for WCC ?

Has anyone upgraded their 1G Ford alternator to a Ford 3G alternator on your 429/460 engines ? I'm deciding whether or not to get an upgraded 1G (75amps at Idle) or buy a more modern 3G unit . I cant confirm if the 3G will fit in the WCC using the existing mounting point on the PASS cylinder head. Experience or advice welcomed.

I swapped out the 1G for a 3G last year. Mount points are the same, assuming you get the correct 3G. Mine is a junkyard pull from a 1995 Mustang V6, rated at 130 amps. I say rated, because they'll actually put out quite a bit more than that. Based upon what I was able to track down the 3G 130 amp is capable of putting out more amps at idle than my 100 amp 1G at higher revs. With the internal regulator you get rid of the old external one. Easy swap and highly recommended.

If you go the junkyard route, get as much of the wiring harness that plugs into the alternator that you can, plus pull the high amp fuse from the fuse block in the engine compartment. The serpentine pulley comes off real easy with an impact wrench. Watch out for spacing between the V-belt pulley and the alternator - I'm told some need a spacer washer (mine didn't).

BTW, I suggest an aluminum billet pulley over a steel pulley - they're far less likely to slip. I got mine from CVF Racing.

Cycle guy. That helps I wasnt sure which mustang 3G version to use. Now I know. Appreciate the info. I have already set Up the car for 3G with all new wiring and maxi fuse. My current single v belt system cant handle more than 100A load without belt slippage but serpintine drive is my next upgrade I have heated seats too
