Hi there,
i want introduce myself, i'm Fabrizio from Italy.
Yes…a west coast cobra arrived in Italy

I'm new WCC Owner from may 2018.
I bought my car in US, St Louis.
It's a WCC 1984, 460 cid, C6 trans, it has a Weiand stealth intake, duoble pumper Holley and unknow alluminum heads.

I need your help: i'm looking for a fuses and relays box. I have looked everywhere, inside car, in engine bay......nothing

Mine is in the driver's footbox, up high on the outside (body side). Each builder could do it their own way, so your's could be behind the dash panel, under a seat or somewhere else.

As an example, when it failed I searched and found the relay for the cooling fans in the driver's footbox, up high on top of a steel crossmember. The easiest way to access it was via the wheel well, after removing the access panels.

Hi guy, i need your help for a new problem on my Cobra.

Short history:

- when first time we have drive car everything was perfect for around 20-25 minutes and after we had electric problem: car run bad, tachometer going crazy and finaly battery die.

- we have find a foulty external regulator, so we change it and we test the battery voltage with 1500-2000 rpm and it is 14 volts (not special but ok for tell thet maybe alternator is ok).

- we had a second and third drive test and every time the car go bad after 20-30 minutes (is like a swiss clock) with tachometer becam crazy (rpm jump to 2000-3000 rpm at idle) and finaly car die.

- battery is ok (we have almost new optima 900 amp start) and if we wait 1 to 2 hours that car becam less warm it start and run perfect again...

- Car has a MSD 6 AL with msd, coil and distibutor

- any suggest about it: alternator, voltage regulator, msd 6AL al fried, ground ......or some thermal switch in some place?

The tachometer gets its signal from the MSD box, so I suspect something in there is thermally sensitive. When it gets hot the ignition goes haywire and the tach readings along with that.

Where is your MSD box mounted? Mine was mounted in the engine compartment, but when it failed I mounted the replacement under the dash, out of the heat of the engine compartment. If it's in the engine compartment you could try relocating it to see if that makes the problem go away.

Hi, my MSD 6 Al is located near the wheel compartment, outside the engine bay, so i think it stay cold.
I have more suspicious for the coil, it is a blaster MSD mounted in horizontal (MSD suggest avoid it because of oil in it) and it became so hot after 20 minutes driving.
Today i will make test: i will drive until appear tachometer problems, after usually car doesnt start before 2-3 hours cooling. I will cooling the coil with compressed air and test to start car in a few minutes.

When I replaced my MSD 6al I also replaced the coil with an epoxy-filled coil and mounted it on the firewall. I'm hoping it lasts forever.

Hi Brian.....you are the winner

Msd Box was guilty, i made test and try to cooling coil and nothing happen.
After i measure the MSD box with infrared thermometer and it was over 115 °F, i cooling it with compressed air to 100 °F and car start perfectly.

I will buy a new MSD 6425 + 8207 coil and i hope to solve problem.
