Hi guys, I’m not enthusiastic about my WCC brake performance.
The hardware looks correct: front Wilwood superlite calipers, 4 pistons, 1,75 inch diameter. Rear Drum 11 inch. 2 brake master cylinders (new): 0.625 front, 0.75 rear, brake balance bar, 5:1 brake pedal. The brakes feel spongy and with long pedal travel. I have bleed correctly all the system. Balance bar is all for front disc, but it’ is difficult to block front disc before rear drum....
Somebody with similar setup?
Are brake master cylinders correct sized?
Front master cylinder (disc) less than rear master cylinder (drum)?

Questions:
1) Were the MCs bench bled before installing them?
2) Have you considered replacing your drum brakes with disc brakes?

Fabrizio, that is alot of info to unpack. Builder of your car sounds like they used the carry over old Kellison style twin master cylinders (Girling or others) with balance bar and Wilwood front calipers and Ford rear drums. I have the Kellison assembly manual but who knows what parts are on your car.

Im with Cycleguy. The Wilwood website has amazing tech documents to help you design your braking system and trouble shoot issues. Call their techline, pretty useful. Another great resource is Behr Brakes. . You should be able to lockup the front brakes first followed by rears with a little more pedal pressure. Other owners of early 80’s may be able to share their experience that have similar setup as you. If you call the tech line you will need to know the master cylinder diameters, caliper piston diameters and the rear drum wheel cylinder diameters. Is there any proportioning valves installed in line ? Theyll need all that info too. Good luck.

UPDATE: after a lot of web study and test with online master cylinder calculators, i bought a 0.875 master front cylinder. I'm happy with result: pedal brake is quite stiff, but i like this than a old spongy situation. Now i can block all 4 brakes with left leg strong pressure. Maybe a 0.813 master cylinder would give me a more confortable compromise between hardness and pedal travel, but i'm really happy for the result if i thought what was before. Thanks to all and especially to kitcarbp for the old manual

Great to hear the m/c replacement gave you a better pedal feel. As long as you can get all 4 wheels to lock up and fronts should lock up before the rears, youve got good brakes.
