Life is Good

I've just completed my WCC. Vern is a very sore subject with me. I went as far as to speak to an attorney in Canada. Bottom line, it would cost me too much to pursue him. He's a crook...however, the end result is my beautiful WCC! Unfortunately, I am still have heating problems. I have a Ford 460 in it but it runs really hot. Any suggestions?

I too have the 460 with the WC stock system and it was running hot or so I thought. I found 2 problems. First there was not enough coolant in system. It is difficult to fill as it so slow to drain from the expansion tank to the radiator. I also tried different brands of water wetter and they all seemed to help a bit. The biggest problem I found was the gauge in the dash was giving a false number. I put a screw in gauge in the manifold and there the temp stayed at 185. Next I need to change the sending unit.

Thanks for that...replacing the gauge was a thought but I haven't acted on it. How did you insulate under the dash to keep the engine heat out? I put an air conditioner in but am having trouble with the tunnels heating up.

Congratulations on your finished build! Vern is another four letter word in most of our vocabularies...but with a lot of elbow great and some extra cash beyond expectations, we have one of the most comfortable, powerful and beautiful cobra replicas out there. Keep us posted on the overheating problems, I'll contribute if I can - most of us have had to work hard to overdcome it. I sealed the body/frame contact area with soft sealant and then Dyanamat behind it. Seems to work but I even had to pack the steering box to prevent hot air throughflow.....

I spent 7 months working out heating problems and have the following suggestions:

1. The standard radiator is generally too small depending on your engine. If you are pushing greater than 550 hp, you probably need more cooling capacity.
2. The design of the cooling system inherently causes air to collect in the system and poor cooling. I installed a bleeder valve at the highest point in the system to remove trapped air. This made ALL the difference!
3. Make sure your timing is set properly.
4. Heat shielding in the engine compartment can reduce tunnel and cockpit temps.

Let us know how it is going. There has been a lot of help on this forum.

Hey guys whoi are having overheating problems. My WC Cobra is a 1984 built it has an aluminum tub inside the engine bay. I don't know if that is stil being done in the new cars. I have a 427 FE S/O and close to 500hp yes it gets hot but I don't get anything over 220 degree in heavy traffic. You might consider the aluminum tub as an option.
