All,
I'd like to know if anyone mounted the side pipes on your car with holes tapped into the frame? I'm wanting to avoid welding if I can, but if necessary, I'll do it. I was looking at the assembly manual and the parts and it looks like your supposed to weld a plate to the frame side rail. I was thinking that the frame wall may be too thin to tap threads. I was thinking I may tap 15/16-24 threads. ... Or, I'd just cut a hole and use a bolt through the 2x4 frame rail. I can access the nut from inside... I have an access hole in the fiberglass under the seat.

mine are drilled and tapped to the rail frame nothing welded.

Update:
I was talking to "kitcarbp" who has used 5/16 steel nut inserts. I'm going to use this very thing. It's one of those things where you hit your forehead and say... "I should have known that!"..

This will alleviate mounting issues and fears about stripping threads out.

Here is the mount and riv-nut I used into the chassis rails. The supplied Jeep CJ tailpipe mount needs to be improved, its not flexible enough, imagine that!

One small issue with riv-nuts they tend to loosen up with time, so be careful Bro

That is true, Are you referring to the kind that are smooth? I got the steel knurled kind. If they do loosen up and spin you can drill them out and insert another one. Of course if you take out metal each time you've got a slightly bigger hole to fill. Then you'll need to weld a plate over the mess, then drill and tap that like it should have been done in the first place.

Speaking of this but a different place. Has anyone had any trouble with bolting on the rear bumper brackets. Mine don't line up. I've got to do some work on the bracket to make it fit the pre-drilled holes on the frame. Because you have to lengthen the holes, it makes the whole bumper assembly weak so in the event of a mild bumper impact you'll most likely mess up this joint. Vern, you're the best.

Update:
I'm using this as a mount for the muffler. It's a rubber tube, but square on the outside. Drill out one side to fit the head of the bolt and a socket. Add a washer on the bolt head side and mount ends with a bolt to the frame . Also drill out the bottom of the 'tube' to fit a nut with a washer to squeeze the one top side of the tube's wall against the muffler bracket.
