GT 40 for sale Ebay question
I think this is the second time I have seen this GT 40 for sale on Ebay.
Does anyone know this car?
$65,000 for a GT 40 kit car sounds like a good price.
What about the quality of the kit?

RCR GT 40 for sale
This one is nice and I've been to RCR and looked at their cars. Perfect. Beautiful machines.

sounds like a space frame car(not a MONO), interior a little cheesy, but overall not a bad price for a Gt with a decent engine with Webers, transaxle is not ideal.
as far as the RCR goes, that one has some really nice features but the price would probably be a record high for an RCR

gt 40 price
I think Dean Lampe sold his for $105,000.00 so I don't think that is an all time high for and RCR. IMO RCR makes one of the better built GT 40 Replica's and I have been in and/or driven most that are in the US (SPF, Roaring 40's, BDR, RCR, CAV, ERA).

Just thought I would inject my build cost here, because of this post.
M RCR was built by Race-Car_Replicas at a total cost to me of..................
Yes $108,294.58 and I have all documents to support this.

You do realize that just because you spent a fortune having someone build it for you does in no way mean it is worth anywhere near that, right?

That's a Bullcrap statement!!!
If that were true it would invalidate the price of every production car sold.

I think what Pat is trying to say, and this is an extreme example, is that even though you spend $100,000 on "restifying" a Ford Pinto, it's highly unlikely that the owner will ever get anywhere near his money out of his beautifully "restified" Pinto with the 527ci Cammer.

Bullcrap?
LOL.
You are getting your apples mixed up with your oranges......this is not a production car.
If it was a production car I would not have made that statement.

That look's like Allen's here, it has to be the same. Too bad, I know this took a while to build and he had RCR build it from what I remember.

The GT 40 in the ebay ad is a GTD. That was a brit company that went out of business 7 or 8 years ago.

The ad says its' a Boss 302 engine but it has regular small block valve covers, not the Cleveland style covers that the Boss 302 has. The exhaust bolts are straight across, not staggered like the Boss, either.
Hmmmm, makes me wonder what other lies are in the description?

The motor is the biggest issue for me. I don't like iron heads, and I supose it is possible that the block is one of the new replacement boss 4 bolt blocks. The big questions are the solid lifter cam and what the seller says is a custom port job on the iron heads. Lots of questions here.
The first thing I would ask is what oil is in it? If I didn't hear a responce that included Zink additives I wouldn't consider the engine to be one I would want.
Too many flat cams nowadays with the new bad oils.
All in all a fair beginning asking price and a lot of questions, but it could be a very nice car for someone here in California.

I had a GTD GT40 about 7 years ago and the're actually a pretty neat little car. Lot's of aluminum panels and it handled extremely well. Pics in my gallery. As far as the one on Ebay...it looks like upgraded brakes, nice wheels and done pretty well for the price. The motor may be a Boss 302 as he says it has the screw in freeze plugs and if you look at the 2nd pic of the engine from the back those Holman and Moody valve covers are pretty wide and flat like the Boss 302 covers. I've had 3 Boss 302 and remember seeing some of those covers on a Boss before. Guess it could be the new Boss block from Ford also. Nothing wrong with steel heads as although they are heavier you actually can make better HP with them but I also prefer aluminum. Not a bad price for the car as I traded mine for an aluminum Kirkham FIA and ended up selling that for $70K....Blue RCR is very nice but pretty high price. Ron's #14 was an extremely nice RCRGT40 with big Yates motor and it took him some time to sell his in the mid $70s. If you're going to ask over $100K for one you are going to compete with Ford GTs as you can get in one of those for $ 120 if you look hard enough. The problem with GT40s is small universe of buyers out there vs Cobras.........

RCR from what I understand builds prototypes for Detroit
When you build prototypes that are worth $1 million up,
making a kit car is duck soup. So I reckon they are pretty good quality.
I know the price is high but if you are going to go 200 mph you don't want something that's going to fall apart on you.

I don't know much about the GTD, but IMO that interior would have to go....I have been doing a lot of research on the GT40 for a future build and I can say that RCR builds a great car and has top notch people and Allen's car is top of the line. Extra bonus with Allen's car is that the motor was built by Keith Craft and adding the fuel injection with ZF trans you may be pushing 100k.

Looks like a great car.
If in doubt, talk with Fran, owner of RCR. I almost traded my cobra for one of his. It's a work of art !
