What a fun dilemma!
Gulf colors look so right.
That or the Miles/Hulme car.
Of course Black with the silver stripe ala McLaren/Amon....
that's a toughy.

Anything but red, yellow, or blue. Or the goofball "Gulf" color scheme.

That goofball color scheme has adorned some of the greatest, if not the 2 greatest race cars of all time.

I missed you.

It's been unusually slow around here the last few weeks. And I'm worried that something has happened to RodKnock as I haven't heard from him in a while now. Maybe he was on the wrong end of some heavy trading....

Appropriate question!
Mk I - blue, or red. No stripe
Mk II - black, with silver stripes
Mk IV - yellow. No stripe

I saw a Ford GT40 at a dealer in Miami a few years ago - stunning car - white with navy blue stripes. Really looked amazing.

There is an original that races at the historic races here every year and it is deep red. Always loved that color on the GT40.
Another original also raced in the historics along with this one several years ago and it was also a deep red but a bit darker and it looked amazing as well.

I'm partial to Gold or bronze with a black stripe....even like it in the Gulf "moustache" pattern.

It was hard NOT to vote for the Gulf colors...but once you've seen the gold/bronze with the black stripes in the Gulf pattern, you'll see what I mean.

Cheers, Dugly

The red with gold color scheme that BDR came out with a few years back for their GT 40 was great also.

Silver with light silver stripes.

1966 New Superformance GT40MKII Coupe for Sale in Glen Ellyn, IL - dark silver w/ silver stripes - GT402221 on ZIBE

Personally I'd go wide stripes with added pin striping

Default For a Mark 1

Never saw a more beautiful car than the Originals (101 and 102) White with the dark hood without the stripes....if you want the Shelby Team Look, I favor the originial mettalic Guardsman Blue with the white stripes...the Gulf Cars are perhaps the most recognizable/famous ...but for my taste, the only cars that can wear those colors are the originals...and my name is not Walton..unfortunately

Missed the last couple of days, I was busy passing a kidney stone.

Now back to the fun part,

MK I and I plan on putting meatballs and numbers on it. What number?

I bought a GT 40 last winter and have spend the last seven and half months "Fixing Things" as we say in tha South. It still does not run but I think I have most of the parts and people lined up to cure that. Maybe next month I'll be on the road.

I don't like the Dark Cherry paint and it's a bad paint job.

I love the Gulf colors but RED is really my color, well my Cobra is Yellow but that's another subject.

We have a black Coupe with silver stripes and a GT 40 with Black and silver stripes in the neighborhood, Man do they look good! So I don't want to steal their colors.

So I have been thinking, Black with red stripes, Red with no stripes, Red with black stripes, Red, no stripe but black rocker panel stripes and then there is the Gulf scheme. Hard to get away from that.

Now I will have to admit, the white with blue does look very good.

The only color that does not look good on a GT 40 is dark cherry. Maybe gold and a few other race car only colors.

So help me out. It took 18 months to pick the yellow for my Cobra.

Pictures would help.

Dwight
